With over a decade of serving our community, and multiple awards as a top grooming salon in Southeastern Manitoba, we’ve built a reputation rooted in trust, skill, and an unwavering commitment to each pet’s comfort and well-being.

We are a progressive, team-based salon that blends advanced grooming with a deeper understanding of behaviour, health, and wellness. Our services range from routine maintenance and à la carte care to full custom styling, with a strong focus on creating positive, individualized experiences for every pet, including those with medical needs, behavioural challenges, or past trauma.

We are currently seeking a dedicated Prep Technician to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and takes pride in providing the foundation that allows every groom to be successful.

🐶 Your Role
As a Prep Technician at Shag to Chic, you will:

• Professionally bathe, dry, and prepare dogs for their Stylists, ensuring every pet is clean, comfortable, and ready for the grooming table
• Perform services such as nail trims, ear cleaning, pad trimming, hygiene trims, de-shedding, and de-matting efficiently  
• Observe each pet closely and communicate any concerns, abnormalities, or changes to the Stylist or management team 
• Interpret and record information regarding the pets in our care with accuracy
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace while practicing a clean-as-you-go approach throughout the day 
• Assist with salon cleaning, laundry, and daily maintenance tasks to support the entire team 
• Work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and the individual needs of each pet 
• Adapt quickly to changing priorities and confidently pivot when needed 
• Support the team by stepping in wherever needed to keep the day running smoothly 

🧠 What We’re Looking For

• A long-term addition to our team that is passionate about working with pets and working within a small business, where its success is directly linked to each team member’s invested performance.
• Someone who isn't afraid of hard work and doesn't mind getting down and dirty – bathing dogs can be a wet and dirty job.
• A solid work/volunteer history, demonstrating a strong work ethic, and low      absence rate
• Ability to pivot from one high-priority task to another
• The ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and safely team-lift dogs or equipment exceeding 50 lbs 
• The physical capability to stand/walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, and handle the demands of an active, hands-on role. Working with animals, especially ones that may outweigh you, is not light-duty work!
• Physically fit - and able to maintain pace in a demanding pet grooming salon where there is lots of standing, fast-paced walking, bending, twisting, lifting, and repetitive hand/arm/wrist movements
• A team player - ability to collaborate quickly and efficiently
• Great communication skills – communication within the team has to be kind, clear, direct, and concise. 
• Solid ethics – open and honest in all dealings
• A desire to learn new skills, accepting constructive criticism/coaching and growth with a positive attitude
• A natural ability to "read" a dog's body language and respond accordingly
• Able to pull ticks, clean up potty messes, and keep a cheerful demeanour, while keeping up in a fast-paced environment
• Previous knowledge of coat types and de-shedding techniques, or the ability to learn and retain this essential knowledge 
• Strong ability to anticipate the needs and respond with a willingness to assist
• An adaptable approach when faced with challenges or unexpected situations 
• A genuine passion for animal care and creating positive experiences for pets      
• A strong work ethic and pride in contributing to a high-functioning team 
• Previous experience in a grooming salon, animal care setting, or a willingness and ability to learn in a fast-paced environment 
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet 
• Excellent time management, pattern recognition, and organizational skills 
• The ability to retain knowledge and apply feedback immediately and effectively, asking and not assuming if unclear 
• Confidence working around dogs of varying sizes, coat types, and temperaments 
• A team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills 
• A positive attitude and willingness to support wherever needed 
• High personal standards and attention to detail 
• The ability to work efficiently and maintain a steady pace throughout a physically demanding day, and find joy and satisfaction in what you do 
• Make thoughtful, timely decisions in a fast-paced environment while knowing when to seek support from teammates

📍 Position Details

• Full-time or part-time 
• Saturday rotation required 
• Compensation based on experience 
• Group Benefits offered after 3 months to those working 30+ hours per week
• Pet care products/toys/accessories "at-cost"
