What’s Included in the Shag to Chic Grooming Experience

Not all dog grooming salons are created equal, and once you understand what goes into a truly thoughtful, intentional, individually tailored, well-paced groom, the difference becomes clear.
At Shag to Chic, every visit is built around your dog’s comfort, their experience, and setting them up for long-term success, not just how they look walking out the door (though we focus highly on that too ✨).

Most dogs don’t struggle with grooming by accident, there’s usually something underneath the surface that’s being missed.

At Shag to Chic, our approach is shaped by far more than grooming alone. Alongside our team of experienced stylists, we bring certified canine massage and body-work knowledge into our work, along with an on-site Pet Care Aide with international veterinary experience. Our owner has also managed a veterinary clinic, adding another layer of awareness to how we handle, observe, and support each dog in our care.

What that means for your dog is simple:
We’re not just focused on how they look, we’re paying attention to how they move, how they respond, and what they may be communicating through their coat, skin, and behaviour.

Because different coat types (single coat, doodle, double coat), lifestyles, and sensitivities all require different approaches, every groom here is tailored, adjusted, and intentional, right down to the products we choose that day, and the pace we move at.

It’s a level of care that goes beyond grooming, and it's something your dog can feel.

This is where the experience truly starts to feel different, and where thoughtful grooming becomes something you and your dog can actually feel.

  • A paced, intentional approach — we adjust the flow of the groom to your dog’s comfort, not a rigid schedule
  • On-site Pet-Care Aide and experienced staff — Our Pet Care Aide comes with international Veterinary experience, our owner managed Central Veterinary Services, meaning our staff is highly trained in more than just a cute haircut.
  • Calm, supported handling — especially for nervous, young, or sensitive dogs who need a little more reassurance
  • Customized, salon-grade products — selected specifically for your dog’s coat and skin needs that day
  • A full blow-out and stretch dry — properly preparing the coat for a smoother, more even, longer-lasting finish
  • Thorough brush and comb work — ensuring the coat is truly worked through, not just surface-level finished
  • Coat-specific techniques — different approaches for single coats, doodles, and double coats to support proper coat function
  • Targeted skin and coat support — when needed, for dogs with sensitivities or ongoing concerns
  • Extra time where it matters — whether that’s working through a thicker coat or allowing a dog to settle and reset
  • Rest breaks built into the process — because comfort and safety always come before speed
  • Consistent, detail-focused finishing — so your dog leaves looking polished, balanced, and feeling their best

Your dog’s stylist report is designed to give you a clear, thoughtful look at their entire visit, not just how they behaved, but what we’re seeing, what they’re feeling, and what they may need moving forward.

After each appointment, you’ll receive a detailed summary that includes:

  • How your dog experienced their groom — their demeanor, tolerance level, and what they enjoyed (or didn’t)
  • Handling notes — where they may have needed extra support, a helper, or a slower approach
  • Coat and condition insights — including skin, coat condition, and shedding patterns for double-coated dogs
  • Physical observations — eyes, ears, nails, and paw pads
  • Personalized care notes — anything we feel is important for their comfort or future visits
  • Product and service recommendations — tailored specifically to your dog
  • Visit details — who completed their prep work, who styled them, and even the finishing scent they went home with

We also provide guidance on recommended grooming frequency, based on your dog’s coat type, condition, and lifestyle, so you’re never left guessing what’s best for them.

All of this is easily accessible through your Pet Parent Portal, giving you a running history of your dog’s care and progress over time.

Because a great groom doesn’t just end at pick-up, it gives you the information and support to keep your dog feeling their best between visits.

Everything starts here. Every service below builds from this same comprehensive foundation. So no matter what you book, your dog receives consistent, high-quality care.

Single Coat Full Groom

Includes our full core grooming experience, plus a complete, all-over haircut tailored to your dog’s coat and lifestyle. We pay special attention to areas that overgrow quickly (face, feet, hygiene), while still delivering a balanced, head-to-tail groom.

Doodle Grooming

Includes our full core grooming experience, plus a complete haircut designed specifically for doodle coats. Additional time is spent working through the coat, with deep conditioning used as needed to maintain softness and manageability.

Bark-to-Basics

Includes our full core grooming experience, plus a short, practical, tip-to-tail trim to a consistent, velvety length. Clean, even, and designed for easy maintenance.

Freshen-Up

Includes our full core grooming experience, with trimming focused on the face, feet, and hygiene areas to keep your dog comfortable and tidy between full grooms.

Additional trimming can be requested; however, once we begin working across the full body, it becomes a full groom.
* Long coat blow-out fees may apply depending on coat length.

Doodle “Renoo-dle”

Includes our full core grooming experience, with trimming focused on face, feet, and hygiene, along with additional coat care tailored to doodles—such as extended brushing time and deep conditioning when needed.
* Long coat blow-out fees may apply.

Double Coat De-Shed

Includes our full core grooming experience, plus a thorough de-shed using specialized tools, techniques, and products to safely remove undercoat and support proper coat function. Feet and hygiene trimming are included, with additional shaping available through Tailor-Up options.

Double Coat Shave

Includes our full core grooming experience, plus a full de-shed (we don’t just shave the problem), followed by a shorter, plush clip on the body with soft blending through the head and tail.

Double Coat Scissor Clip

Includes our full core grooming experience, plus a full de-shed and a longer scissor/comb clip (typically leaving 2–3 inches), finished with a soft, blended look.

Puppy Tidy-Up

Includes our full core grooming experience, introduced at a pace your puppy can comfortably handle. These visits are designed to build confidence and positive grooming experiences over time.

Every dog’s visit is structured around comfort. That may mean precision efficiency for the anxious dog and compassion breaks for the elderly. Each moment, each pet,

handled with care and intention.

Average Overall Session Times:

  • Small/Medium single-coat & doodle grooms: 2.5 hours
  • Large/Giant single-coat & doodle grooms: 2.5–4+ hours
  • Small/Medium double coats: 2–4 hours
  • Large/Giant double coats: Often the majority of the day **
  • Puppies: Typically 1.5–4 hours

Some dogs need breaks. Some need time. That’s part of doing it right.

** For larger dogs or thicker coats/shedding breeds, proper drying is essential, and we’ll never rush that process at the expense of comfort or quality.

That’s completely normal.

We’re always happy to talk through your dog’s coat, lifestyle, and options, so you feel confident in the plan moving forward.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about how your dog looks, it’s about how they feel 🐾
